Furahini is Swahili for “be happyFurahini is also the name for a Swedish-Kenyan collaboration with a school in Mombasas ghetto. We started the project as a self-help group in 2004.  We were two families, a Kenyan and a Swedish, who saw that they could create something together.

Now we are 40 sponsors in Sweden. Furahini has become an NGO (non-government organization) with a Kenyan board of directors and where the charter families do the actual work. We operate a nursery-school for 84 children in Alidina, located under the landing path of Mombasa’s airport.  We also sponsor 27 children who have gone further in the school system, and we have begun a project for school lunch.

No one person can do everything – but if everyone does something, we can change the world!
